History of Immunization against Tuberculosis

چکیده
The isolation and cultivation of the tubercle bacillus by R. Kocli gave a great impetus to the efforts to immunize susceptible animals against tuberculosis. The methods of vaccination successfully used in a certain number of bacterial infections were naturally seized upon so as to arrive at the same results in this disease. The discovery of tuberculin by Koch led people to hope that it would be successful in the prevention and cure of tuberculosis. But everyone quickly realized that although it was harmless to tubercle-free animals, it failed to confer the

Chitosan (CHT) and trimethylchitosan (TMC) nanoparticles as adjuvant/delivery system for parenteral and nasal immunization against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTb) ESAT-6 antigen
Objective(s): An efficient vaccine against TB is an urgent need. TB peptides are safe candidate but they are weak immunogens and needs to be potentiated by adjuvant/delivery systems. The main purpose of the present study was to determine the potential of CHT based NPs containing ESAT-6 antigen of M. tuberculosis for inducing mucosal and systemic immune responses after intranasal and subcutaneou...
متن کاملPotential of polymeric particles as future vaccine delivery systems/adjuvants for parenteral and non-parenteral immunization against tuberculosis: A systematic review
Objective(s): Production of effective tuberculosis (TB) vaccine is necessity. However, the development of new subunit vaccines is faced with concerns about their weak immunogenicity. To overcome such problems, polymers-based vaccine delivery systems have been proposed to be used via various routes. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of polymeric particles as future vaccine...
متن کاملA novel formulation of Mtb72F DNA vaccine for immunization against tuberculosis
Objective(s): Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis), an intracellular pathogen, causes 1.5 million deaths globally. Bacilli Calmette-Guérin (BCG) is commonly administered to protect people against M. tuberculosis infection; however, there are some obstacles with this first-generation vaccine. DNA vaccines, the third generation vaccines, can induce cellular immun...

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) has been considered as a main health problems of the present century. Unfortunately, it has been reported different protective responses against BCG vaccine, as only available vaccine against TB .The search for a new and improved vaccine against tuberculosis is currently a very active field of research. In this study, we have evaluated the relative effects of int...
متن کاملImmunization Coverage in WHO Regions: A Review Article
In 1974, the World Health Organization (WHO) established the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) to ensure that all children have access to routinely recommended vaccines. Since then, global coverage with the four core vaccines (Bacille calmette guérin vaccine [for protection against tuberculosis], Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine [DTP], Polio vaccine, and Measles vaccine) has increase...
متن کاملQuantiation of IL-4, IL-10 and IFN- Genes Expression after Immunization of Mice with CFP-10 and ESAT-6 Containing Vectors
Background: Tuberculosis is a disease with high morbidity, caused mainly by Mycobaterium tuberculosis (M.tb.). DNA vaccines show a promising future due to their unique advantages over conventional methods. The early-secreted antigen target (ESAT)-6 and culture filtrate protein (CFP)-10 of M.tb. antigens have been identified as vaccine candidates against Mycobacteria and used as subunit vaccines...
